Ekphrasis
passion, hunger, talent, perseverance, patience, still it might not be enough.
the work!
the grease paint, the roar of the crowd
a hollow percussion
keep it real!
time to cry can be now or later
check the mirror !
before me I see portraits of Trotsky, Neruda, Borges, Cortazar, Fitzgerald, Sitting Bull, some I don’t recognize.
literature, homeland, ideology; quests that fueled and kept them moving in time; only one woman amongst them.
did any need a Sancho?
individual cavaliers?
my gut, my Panza.
Ekphrasis
A trabajar!!!

Maryanne began singing in church as a child. She continued to sing for 30 years, as an adult, in the well known and often recorded Brooklyn Oratory Choir, Brooklyn New York.
As well, Maryanne sang in a jazz close harmony quartet, and performed as part of a duo in New York City cabarets and clubs and throughout the Netherlands.
When she met maestro Jorge Anders in 2005 she began writing lyrics to many of his songs and they recorded these songs together in 2009.
In 2011 they moved to Buenos Aires and she became singer soloist in his jazz big band (premio Konex 2015). His untimely death in 2017 has given Maryanne the impetus to continue honor his legacy.
She continues to write and perform and thanks Jorge Garzarelli for his wonderful translation her poem Ekphrasis .
